A two day tour was organised by JECRC UDML College of Engineering for the 3rd year students to ISRO Ahmedabad’s Space Application Centre(SAC) under the flag ship of Prof. Vijeta Kumawat ,H.O.D ,Dept. of Computer Science from 22nd of Jan to 23rd of Jan 2015 . 55 deserving students from CS,EC,ME branches were able to avail this “one of it’s kind” opportunity.
This rarest of the rare opportunity was given to the students by our principal Dr.Ram Rattan who was the former Asso. Director of ISRO Ahmedabad and at present with this JECRC UDML got the privilege to become the first engineering college of India ever to visit ISRO.
The first day of the tour comprised of the ISRO visit where students visit the world class Labs and payloads developed by India indigenously. The campus was really huge, well maintained and highly secured. The students were first of all addressed by the coordinator of ISRO Mr. DRM Samudraiah in an introductory session .He explained the nuances of the instruments and elaborated on their underlying concepts. He also talked about the methodologies adopted for making the missions like Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan successful and feasible and talked about the future plans too. Various labs like Sensor Development Lab, Environment Lab, Thermovaccum Lab, Vibration lab etc were visited by the students. A camera which was used in Mangalyan mission was also shown to the students and analysed.
All the students are extremely delighted to explore the “wonder world”, which has done marvels. These labs have been visited by Shri Abdul Kalam the former President of India , Dr Man Mohan Singh the former Prime minister of India , Shri Narendra Modi the Prime Minister of India at present , most of the cabinet colleagues of the govt. of India and by the top scientists .
As told by Aditya sharma, CS student “The campus was really huge, well maintained and highly secured .It was a lifetime opportunity to visit the Labs. It was an enthralling experience for me, where I saw the wonders created by the engineers and scientists, and was really motivating”. Same degree of elation and gratitude was seen in Pratishtha Pathak when she was interviewed.
Dr.Ramrattan is planning more such visits to Bangalore, Sriharikota , with extended no. of students and more no. of days.
The students extended a hearty gratitude to the Principal for giving them this opportunity to explore such an amazing place.
